Complaints of a tutor

1) Referencing- APA format. Enough said.

2) Emprical Research- means peer-reviewed journal articles. Not from www.psychology.com

3) Quotations- usually for one sentence, not a whole paragraph.

4) Organisation of material- hunting all over the place for information is no fun in an report.

5) Track the original article instead of doing ( ___ , cited from ____ ) in the whole report.

6) Grammar (mine is bad, but if i can spot yours, that's worse...and if i can spot more than 5 in one page, please seek help).

7) Double spaced and paragraphing please!!

8) And after repeating all the above 2 times in class, there isnt any excuse for not doing them.

oh yeah.. i can identify with that. I screen quite a few out- i didnt find any, but their pharaphising, referencing and quoting techniques r so bad, i wish i can penalise them for "insult to the author"

*laughs* Is the plagiarism so blatantly obvious? Or is it just that everyone's work just looks similar because they all ripped it off from the same source?

*nod* - first you see chunks of lovely coherent paragraphs obviously written by one who is highly intelligent and well-read; the next thing you know, the student presents himself/herself as a total idiot who can't even spell the word psychology correctly.

It's called 'cut and paste' :)

Well, besides that..

obviously some students percieved their tutor as dumb.

The sentence was about brain chemistry, the reference was about improving peer relationships.

How blatent is that?

On the other hand...it feels good when students listened to your advice....
