Often, I marinate meat and throw it into the rice cooker for a quick and easy meal. Nothing fancy, just plain old simple good food. A colleague of mine brought in her version and I was hooked straight away. She told me that her mother often cooks this with half jasmine and half glutinous rice. The secret it seems, is to add shrimps. Since attempting it her way, I have never looked back.
I tend to make this in big batches and fridge/freeze it. I was abit worried about freezing glutinous rice but it turned out as delicious after reheating.
The only thing is that our near 6 years cheap old rice cooker died soon after! Well, no fear, we picked up a nicer one for AU$89. A bargain since it was down from AU $120.
What is your version of a one pot delight?
2cups of jasmine or basmatic rice
2 cups of glutinous rice soaked overnight
Marinate
300 grams chicken thigh meat sliced
1 tablespoon of dark soya
2 tablespoon of light soya
1 tsp of sesame oil
1 tablespoon of oyster sauce
1/4 cup of hua tiao jiu
2 chinese sausages sliced
1 cup of dried shrimps washed and toasted.
Marinate meat for around 30 mins or so. If you are tight of time, you can skip this step (but not as tasty!). Cook rice per normal instructions. When rice is nearly ready, pour chicken mixture + chinese sausages + dried shrimps into rice cooker. Toss through. Close lid and let it cook till done. Serve with veges.

Ms One Pot Meal here is jumping-and-down with excitement! :) One question - how much water to put in for the glutinous rice? Is it 1:1 just like cooking rice? This noob here has never cooked glutinous rice, haha!
yeah! I put a little more but it's about till the first line of your finger tip! LOL the old school way of making it! I use basmatic too which uses less water. Don't worry abt the water coz when you put the meat in it, the rice will absorb the sauce ;)
love one-pot cooking too! Mine is similar to yours just that I added some lup cheong. Never tried mixing with glutinous rice, sounds good!
ooo i made mine with same ingredients too but just with rice not with glutinous rice
delicious! the sausages and the dried shrimps would make this so tasty..you already making me hungry early in the morning.
Gosh, this looks outrageously delicious.
This is also my kind of one-pot delight. You can also add mushrooms since they absorb the flavors really well.
I USED to have a rice cooker and then my old roommate took it with her when she moved out. Guess I need to buy one because this looks delicious!
noobcook-yes, adding glutionous rice just seem to give it a sticky texture which i like!
