Listerine contains about 26.7% of alcohol and 2 of the active ingredients used are phenol derivatives which could be the chemical you're talking about found in petrol.. but in their case.. the ingredients derived are plant extracts and for most of the active ingredients, in their individual form are used as food preservatives.
