Sausage Pie

The food magazines on my bookshelf dated back to year 2001. I dont usually keep all my food mags, only the ones which I know I will use it over and over again. I discovered that depending on circumstances or stage in life, different recipes appeal to me.

Like for instance, I obtained this recipe from Australian Food Ideas, dated Sept 2004. That was nearly 4 years ago. During that time, my tastebuds were still accustomed to asian cusine and not experimental or brave enough to venture out to other food types. Well, I did make an occasional pasta dish but not as frequent as now.

This recipe did not take much effort. Best of all, it's budget!!!!! I used organic/free range chicken sausages because I'm paranoid about not knowing what goes into the sausage meat (blame it on Current affairs/Today Tonight) and still, it turned out to be less than AU$10 for more than 4 servings.

Sausage Pie (serves 4-6)
1 red onion chopped
6 sausages
1 cup cheese
1/2 cup plain flour
1 1/2 cup of skim milk
3 eggs
pinch of paprika
salt n pepper

Peaheat oven to 200 C.

Fry onion over medium heat. Cook till soft. Remove to a bowl. Add sausages to the frying pan and cook through. Slice each sausage into thirds. Spoon sausages and onions into oven proof dish.

Whisk flour and milk til smooth. Add milk and seasoning + paprika. Whisk all till combined. Pour over sausages. Bake for 40-50 minutes or till set. Stand for 5 minutes before serving.

  1. Old magazines give you new inspirations, don't they? At least that applies to me :)
