Black Bean Yong Tau Fu
Just in case you think that I'm eating nothing but sweets, I have decided to do a YTF post today YTF-Yong Tau Fu. It's another of my "must have" when I return to SG. Although limited in selections, there is a shop nearby that sells fresh yong tau fu every Saturday. I bought a few packets of different variaties (e.g. bitter gourd, fried bean curd..etc) and froze it.
One of my favorite way to have this, is in noodles soup. However, I used this in a stirfry as well. Lots of garlic, freshly chopped chili and black bean sauce is the way to go!
Black Bean YTF
400grams of mixed YTF
3 Tablespoons of black bean sauce (go for Lee Kum Kee, Ayam brand isn't as good)
1 tsp of sugar
1 tablespoon of garlic
1 chopped chili
Heat oil in pan. Stir fry garlic and chili till fragrant. Add YFT and stir fry. Stir in the sauce. Toss for a few more minutes. Serve with hot steamy rice.
Besides Laksa, what other ways would you use YTF?
hi daph...i remember there's a fab place for yong tau fu hidden up lucky plaza...7th floor or something? i misss it soo much! i could eat more than 10 of the deep fried meat balls kekeke...
ReplyDeletei like the dry ones with some sweet and salty sauce...maybe add peanut sauce for more indo feel
At least you can get fresh ones near your place. I had trouble finding them back in California!
ReplyDeleteGo try the Hakka-style YTF when you are Singapore. They serve it with thick bee hoon and minced meat sauce!
Oh my goodness!! I am making yong tau fu tonight! Lol! Sometimes I do this dry method, with soya beans paste, sugar, garlic, sesame oil. We don't do chilli much in our house.
ReplyDeleteI once bought canned ytf in Manchester many years ago. Never seen it since and unobtainable fresh anywhere in the UK. I do miss this dish!
ReplyDeleteoh this is lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love YTF, it makes a great noodle soup meal when I run out of ideas of what to cook!
